News dominates Thursday night television

News programming dominated Thursday night’s television.

The most watched programme of the night was Nine News, with 1.222m metro viewers, according to preliminary overnight metro figures from OzTAM. News ratings were boosted by viewers tuning in for news on the large explosion at a fertiliser factory in Texas.

This was followed by Seven News (1.15m) and ABC News (1.061m).

Mrs Brown’s Boys rated 993,000 for Seven while Citizen Khan rated 653,000.

The Footy Show rated 742,000 for Nine while Top Gear rated 623,000.

Ten’s best performer was News At Five with an audience of 619,000.

In the morning, Seven’s Sunrise (360,000) beat Nine’s Today (308,000).

Nine won in the key demographics, while Seven won in total people:

  • 16-39: Nine 23.8% | Seven 20.1% | Ten 14.9% | ABC1 5.6%
  • 18-49: Nine 23.9% | Seven 19.5% | Ten 14.9% | ABC1 7.4%
  • 25-54: Nine 23.3% | Seven 19.6% | Ten 14.6% | ABC1 8.6%
  • Total people: Seven: 21.8 % | Nine 20.4% | Ten 13% | ABC1 14.4%
