News Limited appoints editorial training manager for Victoria

News Limited has appointed an editorial training manager for its Victorian division.

The editor in chief of The Herald & Weekly Times, Phil Gardner, today announced the appointment of Nick Richardson to the position of Editorial Training Manager for all News Limited divisions in Victoria.

Mr Richardson steps into the newly created role after overseeing the successful graduation of the first six trainees from an innovative News Limited journalism training program in Victoria.

“In his new role, Nick will continue overseeing the trainee program, as well as devising and implementing programs designed to improve the skills of journalists at all levels as we enter the paid content world,” Mr Gardner said.

Mr Richardson has worked at the Herald Sun, The Australian, The Bulletin magazine and, most recently, as group news editor at Leader Community Newspapers. He also lectured in journalism and ran the post-graduate journalism program at RMIT University.

”This position represents a great opportunity to help provide the training and resources for our journalists to deal with the demands of a rapidly evolving industry,’’ Mr Richardson said.

The position takes effects on July 25. Mr Richardson will be based at the HWT offices in Southbank.
