News Magazines shifts Karen McCartney to new role
News Ltd has shifted the group editorial director of its magazines division, Karen McCartney, to a new role – group editorial director of lifestyle content.
McCartney has a brief to develop the editorial strategy for all lifestyle content, attract more female readers and help integrate News’ newly acquired company Kidspot into the business.
McCartney will report to News Ltd chairman and CEO John Hartigan and work closely with group editorial director Campbell Reid and News Magazines’ CEO Sandra Hook.
Hartigan said: “Karen’s first priority will be to identify new growth potential for products like Body+ Soul which has expanded from our Sunday newspapers into a very successful website and www.taste.com.au which has grown in the other direction from a website attracting more than 600,000 users a month to a print section for our metropolitan daily newspapers.”
“We are expanding our lifestyle content and it is crucial that a senior editor of Karen’s expertise and authority has oversight of the journalism to ensure it consistently meets the mark. A crucial part of her role will be to help integrate the newly acquired parenting website Kidspot into our broader business,” he added.
Is this to make way for a reshuffle with a certain Vogue editor and a certain potential new Vogue editor?
