NewsMediaWorks consolidates awards program, creates News Media Awards
Industry body NewsMediaWorks has combined its PANPA Newspaper of the Year Awards and Advertising and Marketing Awards for the first time, establishing the News Media Awards.
The awards – which have recognised excellence in news publishing across Australia, New Zealand and the Asia Pacific for the past 49 years – will now run on the same night. Previously the PANPAs and the Advertising and Marketing Awards were held over two consecutive nights.
NewsMediaWorks said the consolidation included an ‘important evolution’ in its criteria, with a new emphasis on ‘platform agnostic’ news brands. This year also marks the first time creative developed by in-house advertisers, publishers or agencies can enter relevant categories.
NewsMediaWorks CEO, Peter Miller, said the awards program must evolve to remain relevant to publishers and products.
“Successful news media organisations have always been a collaboration between both content and commercial teams – one cannot survive without the other,” Miller said.
“To reflect this, we are returning to a combined awards program to recognise and celebrate these equally important aspects of our sector. We are excited to launch a fresh awards program that continues to recognise excellence in the people, the products, the purpose and performance of news media brands today.”
The new 2018 News Media Awards will be held on September 14 after the Inform News Media Summit and will be sponsored by Media Super, Norske Skog, AAP, DIC and UnLtd.
