The Australian Football League (AFL) has appointed Nick Forward as general manager AFL Digital.

The announcement:

The Australian Football League (AFL) is pleased to announce the appointment of Nick Forward as general manager AFL Digital, as part of the customer and commercial portfolio led by executive general manager customer and commercial, Kylie Rogers.

The role oversees the strategic management of AFL Digital and marketing channels, including news, social, content, brand, product and production, with a focus on diversifying content streams and driving the evolution of the digital experience for fans.

Forward’s extensive experience in building subscription products locally and internationally has been demonstrated most notably as Chief Content Officer at Stan, where he played a pivotal leadership role in bringing both the concept of the Stan streaming platform to life and growing it into the product it is today.

During his time at Stan, Forward commissioned and produced a number of high-calibre series and movies including the award-winning NITRAM in 2021.

Prior to Stan, Forward spent time at Sky UK and Virgin Media where he gained significant experience across media, product, marketing & general management roles. Most recently he held the position of managing director OSN+ and group chief content officer at OSN, the Middle East’s growing entertainment business, leading its digital transformation and long-term growth ambitions.

Forward is passionate about football and media, and building strong creative, content, and marketing propositions to super-serve fans. He is also an avid Brisbane Lions (and Fitzroy) supporter, having grown up a stone’s throw from the Brunswick Street Oval.

“I’m delighted to be joining the AFL at such an exciting time of growth and transformation.

“The AFL has a powerful digital and media presence and I look forward to working with the team to continue building and evolving that presence into something world-class that befits Australia’s biggest sport,” said Forward.

Executive general manager Kylie Rogers said the appointment plays a vital role in the future of the AFL’s digital ecosystem.

“I’m thrilled to be welcoming Nick to the AFL team. He brings a wealth of experience along with a fresh perspective which will be pivotal in leading AFL Digital and all its outputs.

“He and the team will continue to build relevance and connect with our fans in the most authentic and meaningful ways possible,” said Rogers.

Forward commences with the AFL in August 2022.
