Nicole Sheffield CEO of expanded NewsLifeMedia as news.com.au moves across
News Limited’s digital arm news.com.au is to become a part of the company’s lifestyle operation NewsLifeMedia under new chief executive Nicole Sheffield.
NewsLifeMedia was created in November last year as a rebranding from News Magazines.
Sheffield is moving across from her previous role as GM of the Lifestyle Channels at XYZ Networks in a move that had been tipped for some weeks. She rejoins former subscription TV colleague Kim Williams who became CEO of News Limited late last year. She replaces Sandra Hook who left in Janaury.
Williams, previously CEO of Foxtel, said “It makes sense to align news.com.au more closely with our online lifestyle brands, presenting a more integrated network of news and lifestyle to our millions of readers and helping drive traffic through these sites.”
The NewsLifeMedia network includes:
- Food: Donna Hay, Delicious, Masterchef Magazine, Super Food Ideas, Australian Good Taste and taste.com.au; plus custom publishers with Woolworths of Fresh magazine.
- Fashion: Vogue, GQ, Vogue.com.au and GQ.com.au
- Home: homelife.com.au, Country Style, Inside Out, Vogue Living, Golf magazine Health: Bodyandsoul.com.au and Body and Soul section
- Parenting: Kidspot.com.au and birth.com.au
- Weekend: Sunday magazine and the inserted magazines Wish, The Weekend Australian Magazine, Q Weekend, and The Adelaide Magazine.
He added: “While at Foxtel I worked closely with Nicole for a number of years, and became a great admirer of her leadership and style. She is a terrific executive, with a proven track record of growing lifestyle brands across multiple platforms and, I am positive, will be a great asset to News.”
Sheffield said: “NewsLifeMedia has extraordinary brands that resonate with so many Australians and news.com.au has established itself as a leading voice in online news, particularly among younger readers. As we expand those brands into new areas, the future is both exciting and challenging. I look forward to being part of the News team.”
Before her Lifestyle Channels role, Sheffield spent seven years with Pacific Magazines and earlier in her career worked in the multimedia division of Telstra.
That woman has the best swearing vocabulary of anyone I have ever worked with. Go Nicole!

The magazine part had been expected but taking charge of news.com.au in addition seems a little strange. What does that mean for David Penberthy, who as I recall is currently ed-in-chief of that?

Looks like she has been brought in to take on Jane Huxley after her teams recent successes in the digital women’s market. Essential Baby is killing kidspot now and Daily Life has shocked most of us here.
Game on! Kim – genius.

What news experience does she have?

She might shake up the news.com.au crew. Although can’t say Fairfax is exactly killing it in the innovation stakes.

Well Jane Huxley has built a formidable team with Darren Burden in news and Melina Cruickshank in women/parenting. They don’t have the declining by the minute mags tho so not quite the same.

Fairfax hasn’t done anything remotely innovation in the digital news arena for years! And all their masthead websites are identical. So won’t take much for Nicole to start shaking it up.

Best things they have done in ages is Daily Life. Seriously addicted.
