Nine appoints two new executive producers to Sydney 6pm News
Hannah Spurr and Luke Taylor have been appointed executive producers of Sydney 6pm 9News.
Nine’s Sydney news director Michael Best told staff today in an internal message, seen by Mumbrella.
A Nine spokesperson confirmed the appointments.
“These dual roles represent a shift from our previous structure,” the spokesperson told Mumbrella.
“In addition to focusing on 6pm news editorial, they will play a significant role in network integration, major event coverage, multi-platform product development and career growth and mentoring.”
As mentioned, the dual EP structure is an unusual one, with the executive producer traditionally being solo boss of the flagship bulletin.
Spurr was previously a senior producer at Nine, and has been at the company since 2010. Taylor, also a senior producer at Nine, has been with the network for 11 years, with stint at Network Ten and a five-year run at Sky TV UK.
Michael Best returned to Nine in February to take charge of the network’s largest TV newsroom, after leaving the company in 2022.
He stepped into the role left vacant by Simon Hobbs last year. Best previously held roles in Nine’s Europe Correspondence team and its Brisbane operations.
Last month, Best declared Nine Sydney has won the 2025 ratings for the 6pm timeslot, ” just over halfway through the survey year.”
According to Oztam ratings, Nine’s 6pm viewership is up 8.9% on last year.
