Nine axes Dance Your Ass Off
Nine has cut its losses and axed Dance Your Ass Off after just one episode.
The show rated less than 800,000 viewers for the network on Tuesday night. Today Nine said it was pulling the show from the schedules and replacing it with an episode of Two And A Half Men.

No surprise there – whenever the promo came on I found myself covering my eyes.
Nothing against fat people, but jigging just ain’t your thing.

Best decision the Australian viewing public could have made. Thank goodness.

I think one episode was too much, really…

Had no intention of ever watching the show… but I don’t know if Australia really needs any more episodes of Two And A Half Men either.

I first saw DYAO on The Soup and thought ‘Only in America’ – but couldnt believe it when Nine took it on.
I was concerned it may have been something the ACA generation warmed to, but was thankful to see it didn’t rate its ass off!
A move in good taste as much as poor ratings!

Boooo booooo I loved the show….

I have to confess I thought it was going to be a shocker, and reluctantly sat down to watch it. But it surprised me, most of the contestants could actually dance and had stories to tell. Also host and judges came across as genuine.
Personally I think nine have to not panic and try and build an audience for these things. Twitterverse was giving it good reviews.

One ep is hardly enough to build a following on a new series. I would have like to see Nine actually back their programming decision (for better or worse). Throwing in the towel after just one episode of Dance Your Ass Off, in favour of more repeat episodes of Two and a Half Men is a cop out: a open display of no-confidence in Nine’s decision makers.
How many of you were actually one of the 800,000 who tuned in. Granted, it’s a pretty unappealing idea for a show and the promo spots didn’t do much to help change that perception. However, Dance Your Ass Off was as interesting as Biggest Loser and as entertaining as So You Think You Can Dance.
Fail.

Two and a half men? again?

Good call and no point in pushing water up hill on that one.
Here’s hoping for some quality programming and some investment in original programming.

No great loss really. Why don’t they show the contestans doing the fitness work?
This show would be much better served having showed what they actually do to lose the weight rather than watching them dance, but in saying that The Biggest Loser ( America) has now been pushed back to 10.30pm on a Sunday night… as well. Is this the end of the popularity of these shows? The Australians version have just re advertised for this season so time will tell….
Can’t say it really appeals to me to work scantily dressed women and men dance around like that….
Awsome i love two and a half men!

I only tuned in after heaps of people were watching on twitter. I would watch it again, but I will not be watching two and half men repeat or otherwise.
Masterchef’s audience built up over time, and I am sure its twitter following helped it along as well as.
I totally agree 1 episode does not make a following what has Nine got to lose, its not if anything is really working there, they should at least try something. But it seems they are looking for a silver bullet for their crap tv line up.

Dance Your Ass Off Canceled in Australia after one episode???
Guess my dancing didn’t boost ratings!

What do I do now?

Thank god for that. My girlfriend became hooked from the first show.
Yes that some of the contestants can actually dance but they are awful tacky routines. The backing music is obviously done on the cheap also with tinny badly made covers, assuming so the show wouldn’t have to pay full royalties…. but that host woman, possibly the worst presenter for any show ever… She bugs me more than that “i state the obvious” scrag off masterchef
Now if only Channel 7 would get rid of home and away…

they are still promoting this show on ninemsn’s homepage “Tuesday, 7.30pm”

One might suggest that some of the senior execs at Nine consider turning their sharp scapel on themselves. If they truly believe in eradicating poor performance so ruthlessly them surely My Gyngell and co should die by the sword they so clearly live by. How many This Afternoons and DYAO are they going to get away with.
And to all who actually chose to watch that utter crap…surely there must have been a book you’ve been meaning to read. Or a letter to write. Or a toe nail to clip.

Me thinks Ch 9 reacted a bit impulsively by pulling Shake Your Groove Thing. Australia loves underdog stories. No guts, no glory!
Now, taking This Afternoon off the air was a brilliant stroke cause that show was horribly miscast, terribly boring and undoubtedly doomed from the get go.

There is a God and we now know (s)he hates fat people dancing.
Now let’s vote and get rid of all the other awful reality garbage that is on our tellies.

Good…………one night was too much.
But more Two and a Half Men!!!! Too much! Too much! Another half hour of those guys, and my arse will drop off!!

Good riddance…. It was looking pretty bad for Channel Nine but at least they were smart enough not to insult the Aussies for too long, as dummies who will watch anything they put on our screens…
Love Charlie Harper, cant get enough of him. Yay!

The bigger question remains, how long can the bosses of Nine continue to make such bad programming decisions? They’re beginning to make George Bush Jnr seem remotely intelligent.

Channel Nine? I think they should change their name to Channel Two and a Half.

hahah channel two and a half. Nice.

You all are talking like there is only ever one australia tv channel.

Am gobsmacked that over 800,000 people would even consider watching this in the first place. Has no one worked out that if there’s nothing decent on tv, there are other options? Like get off your lazy fat arse and do something constructive. Create a nice mobile for the kid’s bedroom; organise a local choir to entertain the local old people’s home; turn on the computer and look at porn; get the pellet gun out and aim at the local community housing house; throw stale chapati’s at the local Indian student hostel and watch as they complain of racial discrimination; watch as the Indian media turn it into an international outrage; watch as Kevin Rudd goes to India and says everything is Ok (he said so in Hindu) and we love having Indians here; Have your car washed by an Indian student studying Biochemical Engineeering; the options are endless…yet people still want to watch a show called DANCE YOUR ASS OFF; TWO AND A HALF MEN; and anythng else on the NINE Network with their current programmers. Read a book for God’s sake. I hear the Richard Wilkin’s autobiography is a winner. I read about it on Twitter.

Are the programming executives at Channel Nine so ridiculously out of touch with the Australian viewing audiences that they actually thought this would be well received?
Perhaps it was more a case of, ‘motherf#%er! We’re out of ‘Bolivian marching powder’ and there’s 5 minutes until the acquisition / scheduling meeting is on! For f#^ks sake, someone must have a f&*ki8ng idea?’
Channel 9… right now you’re managing to achieve what has been impossible up until now – the ability to both suck and blow at the same time.

Was Channel 9 trying to get 10’s glory of Biggest Looser and SYTYCD all squeezed up in to one, big gyrating show?

I am not going to be as nice. I think the show was disgusting, i do take offence to watching a bunch of fat people dance.
Get off the tv, eat a proper diet and exercise.
Very simple!

Enough of the Fat Mafia , there is nothing nice about scantley clad over weight people dancing around with nil dance skills ,
lap band surgery for the lot of you , Over weight people dont eat or execise properly .
Like drug addicts they need help , to steer them in the right path ,
Tell me what you eat and i will tell you what you are .

How heads do not roll at that joke of a network I will never know. Although I must say it would be a shame to get rid of them, as I really look forward to seeing their next pearler of a show being promoted!
We should all spare a thought for their poor sales team who have the ignomy of having to promote these bombs to the industry. Must be a tough gig.

Great to see people having fun and smiling!
They might just be big, but they’ve got big personalities.
I loved the show!

i am annoyed that channel nine axed the show? I am not obese but i was just amazed how well they could move with all that weight and not embarrassed about it? Good on them for dancing to lose it
Its a shame cause it would have helped the amount of people that are overweight and are trying to lose it. Bring it back on.

Hey you took dance your ass off why dont you take off the couple show at 7.30 on a wednesday night too? so stupid? bring back dance your ass off.

well it was full on Americana but one episode is a bit rough! what happend to the old aussie belief of ‘give it a go’ ?
No more two and a half men… NO MORE!!!! enough repeats.. get something fresh on!! its no less distasteful than biggest loser or so you think you can dance.. in fact it was refreshing to see some larger people get motivated by doing something they love rather than sweating and starving themselves to win. Bring it back and dont be so.. hasty!

No-one wants to watch that. It’s bad enough we have the biggest loser. People won’t be intereset in the fattest loser.
