Nine CEO announces ‘important changes’ to Melbourne leadership team
The leadership of Nine’s Melbourne team has been given a shake-up.
In a note sent to staff earlier this month, seen by Mumbrella, the media giant’s acting CEO, Matt Stanton, announced some “important changes”.
Stanton confirmed that Nine Melbourne’s managing director, Matt James, will move into a senior strategy role across the wide Nine Group, in which he will work in its transformation team.
James previously worked as managing director of Mi9 and group director of the company’s Powered marketing services team.

“Matt has 35 years global media experience and is well-positioned to support the drive for strategic growth of our business,” Stanton’s note reads.
“In line with the structure in our Perth and Adelaide teams”, the move will see Nine’s Melbourne director of sales, Andrea Salmon, take on “an expanded role as director of sales and managing director of Nine Melbourne and will continue to report to Michael Stephenson”.
The former Southern Cross Austereo head will be tasked with strengthening collaboration with Nine assets including Channel 9, 3AW, The Age, and the AFR.

Stanton wrote: “Moving forward in Melbourne, radio will continue to report to Tom Malone, publishing to Tory Maguire, television to Michael Healy, and sales to Michael Stephenson. Matt’s managing director responsibilities are currently being transitioned over to Andrea, who will focus on ensuring our business remains connected across all levels and with our partners in Melbourne.”
The news comes only a week after Nine confirmed to Mumbrella that its Sydney news director, Simon Hobbs, was wrapping up with the company, while former Nine News Queensland director, Amanda Paterson, also exited a week prior to that.
