Nine promotes Jo Clasby to commercial director – publishing

Nine has announced the promotion of Jo Clasby to the role of commercial director – publishing.

Clasby returned to Nine in October of 2020 as director of client partnerships – publishing, having previously served as the group business manager of Nine Network Australia from 1997 to 2012.

Her past stint at Nine took place before the media company took a controlling stake in Fairfax Media, and she returned after five years at Bauer Media (now Are Media) and another three-and-a-half at Foxtel.

In her new role, Clasby will report to director of sales – digital and publishing, Nick Young.

He told staff in an internal note: “I think it’s fair to say that while Jo has been with us only nine months, in that time she has made an outstanding contribution to the business overseeing the day to day sales publishing team, working the state sales directors implementing the commercial strategy, as well as the individual client leads across the mastheads.”

“Anyone that has worked with Jo would know she is a skilled operator who has brought both publishing and television sales insight to Nine.

“Her new role reflects the importance of us continuing to grow our share of print and digital in premium news environments, and develop innovative solutions for our clients such as last week’s AFR Rolex campaign.”

Clasby’s promotion follows that of Anthony Smyth, who at the start of 2021 was elevated to the role of commercial director – Nine Radio.

Smyth reports to Richard Hunwick, and was promoted after having worked at Macquarie Media from 2012 through to the Nine takeover.

Prior to that, he spent time in leading sales roles at Pacific start Network and Australian Radio Network.
