Nine Radio returns Tony Moclair to 3AW Overnights after replacing him with syndicated Michael McLaren show

Nine Radio has backflipped on its plans to syndicate programming across 2GB, 3AW and 4BC, bringing host Tony Moclair back to Melbourne’s 3AW for the overnight slot.

In January the radio broadcaster announced Michael McLaren would be the new host of the program, replacing Australia Overnight hosts Moclair and Bianca Johnston in the slot, which runs from midnight until 5:30am during the week.

Head of content Greg Byrnes emailed staff to inform them of the decision, saying success in local content elsewhere on the radio network had made it an easy choice.

“At the start of the year, we made the decision to return our evening programming to the local market with Denis Walter on 3AW and John Stanley on 2GB,” said Byrnes.

“The big audiences that both Denis and John have attracted at night shows our listeners seek the companionship and connection of a local voice. Returning Tony to overnights in Melbourne is recognition of that, as well as the high regard in which we hold him as a 3AW broadcaster.”

McLaren will still host the syndicated program on 2GB and 4BC.
