Nine wins Thursday ratings while Seven and Ten continue to tussle for second

Thursday nights are proving to be a ratings battleground for Ten’s main channel and Seven, with the former taking second place behind Nine last night.  

Masterchef and Glee are Ten’s big Thursday ratings winners, with Glee yesterday attracting its highest ever overnight audience.

While Masterchef led with an average audience of 1.65m, Glee had 1.339m, according to preliminary overnight OzTam data in the main metro markets.

The two shows also took out the top two most-watched spots for viewers 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54, led by the cooking show. And among 16-39s Ten’s The 7PM Project came in third.

However, Seven’s evening news and current affairs show Today Tonight, remain leaders in those categories, and were the second and third most-watched shows for the night respectively.

Meanwhile, among the breakfast shows there was little separating Seven’s Sunrise which saw 364,000 tune in, only slightly ahead of Nine’s Today show with 356,000.

In overall free-to-air viewing, Nine’s main channel led with a 26 per cent share, followed by Ten with 22.2 per cent and then Seven with 22.1 per cent.

On Thursday of last week, Seven came in second ahead of Ten with 21.9 per cent and 21.3 per cent respectively.

However the Thursday prior to that Ten was second and ahead of Seven with 22.5 per cent and 22.2 per cent respectively.

Mondays are also proving to be a strong night for Ten with the channel this week sneaking into second place in FTA TV share, behind Seven, while Nine came third. Ten’s night was boosted by the launch of its new US comedy Modern Family.
