Nine’s CFO Greg Barnes to exit

After growing speculation, Nine has confirmed chief financial officer Greg Barnes is leaving the business.

Barnes, who will leave the media business at the end of August, initially joined Nine in July 2016 and has worked across many of its properties, including Stan and Car Advice.

Barnes joined Nine from building products company CSR three years ago, and played a key role in the Nine/Fairfax merger, according to Nine CEO Hugh Marks.

“Media was a new adventure for Greg but one that he has taken to with enthusiasm. Not only was he a key player in our merger with Fairfax Media, but he has also served as chairman of Car Advice and a director of Stan, helping oversee the growth and expansion of these important businesses,” said Marks in a memo to staff.

“I would like to thank Greg for the significant contribution he has made to Nine over the past three years,” said Marks.

“It has been an incredibly exciting and formative time for the Group, and Greg has been instrumental in that. I wish him all the best for the future.”

Barnes said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Nine. We have achieved a great deal during that period, not the least of which was the completion of the merger with Fairfax – it’s been an exciting time. I wish Nine and the team all the very best and am looking forward to embarking upon my next challenge.”

Nine is in the final stages of finding a replacement for Barnes and hopes to make an announcement soon.
