Nine’s Fast4 Tennis watched by 713,000 as rain delayed Ten’s Big Bash

The debut of Nine’s short-format tennis tournament at 7.30pm drew a metro audience of 713,000 to watch Roger Federer take on Lleyton Hewitt.

The Fast4 Tennis helped Nine secure an audience share of 20.5 per cent, ahead of Seven’s share of 18.4 per cent.

In other sport, Ten’s Big Bash match which saw Adelaide Strikers take on the Sydney Thunder was delayed by rain with the first innings kicking off at 9:05 pm instead of the scheduled 7.30pm. The ten over first innings was watched by 640,000 metro viewers, according to figures from Ten based on OzTam timings, however the second innings lasted just one over before rain halted play.

The post game broadcast from 10:18pm to 10:42pm was watched by 544,000 viewers. During the rain delay, from 7.30pm to 9.03pm, the Big Bash had a metro audience of 355,000.

Ten grabbed an audience share of 12.3 per cent, beating the ABC’s share of 11.1 per cent.

Nine’s Fast4 Tennis and Ten’s Big Bash Cricket were both out-rated by Seven’s Motorway Patrol which drew a metro audience of 815,000 in the 7.30pm timeslot. At 8pm Seven’s Nabbed was watched by 820,000. It was the most watched show amongst the 16-39 and 18-49 demographics.

On the ABC 7.30 Summer pulled an audience of 647,000 with a repeat of QI at 8pm watched by 567,000. A repeat of Grand Designs at 8.30pm had an audience of 569,000.

In news, Nine won the night with a 6pm audience of 1.071m and a 6.30pm audience of 1.046m. Seven News at 6pm was watched by 1.008m with a 6.30pm audience of 974,000.

In the Asian Cup, the game between Japan and Palestine was watched by 72,000 metro viewers on Fox Sports, with 71,000 tuning in for the game between Jordan and Iraq.

On the secondary channels, 7TWO led the way with an audience share of 4.5 per cent, with Judge John Deed at 7.30pm watched by 260,000 metro viewers.
