Nine’s The Voice builds on new season launch audience, can’t beat Seven’s MKR

Nine’s The Voice last night delivered a bigger audience than its premiere last Sunday, with a metro audience of 1.108m metro viewers.

With the absence of last week’s build up to the Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony, The Voice was able to edge towards Seven’s My Kitchen Rules, which pulled in 1.288m metro viewers.

Last weekend, The Voice premiered with a metro audience of 1.029m, its lowest launch audience to date.

Commencing at 7:30pm was Ten’s Bachelor in Paradise, which attracted 669,000 metro viewers. The show out-rated both MKR and The Voice across two of the three key advertising demographics, the 16-39s and 18-49s.

In the 25-54s, My Kitchen Rules reigned, with 522,000 tuning in.

Ten’s Bachelor in Paradise also contributed large viewing audiences on Tenplay over the last week. According to Ten, Bachelor in Paradise has 6.3m video segment viewers, making it the biggest weekly views for any show on Tenplay to date.

The lead up to Bachelor in Paradise was Ten’s alternative news offering, The Project at 6:30pm, which averaged a metro audience of 259,000.

Among the news and current affairs programs, Seven News grabbed the largest audience, with 1.215m watching the 6pm bulletin. Nine News Sunday’s audience just missed out on the 1m viewer mark – at 966,000.

Meanwhile, ABC News Sunday had an audience of 695,000. Outside of news, the national broadcaster’s highest performing show was Grand Designs, with 610,000 metro viewers.

The multi-channels was also dominated by the ABC, with ABC Kids’ Thomas and Friends pulling in 172,000.

But overall Seven nabbed another Sunday night win, with a share of 25.1% on its main channel. Nine’s main channel share was 21.9%, putting the network in second place ahead of Ten’s 11.2% share, ABC’s 10.2% and SBS’ share of 5.5%.
