Nine’s Tricky Business debuts under 1m

Nine’s debut of family drama Tricky Business took under 1m viewers on Monday night.

The show, which aired after the network’s successful singing contest, The Voice, had preliminary ratings of 1.16m and was scheduled for a 9.30pm start.

However, as the show didn’t begin until 9.42pm, the true average ratings stand at 0.987m between 9.42pm and 10.42pm.

The Voice, which was had its first live show, won the night with 2.199m and ran overtime, from 7.30pm to 9.42pm, would have helped give Tricky Business an initial ratings boost.

It’s been suggested in a report by TV Tonight that the time-code discrepancy was a ploy by Nine to up the drama’s ratings.

As a result, a time shift moves Tricky Business from seventh to ninth place on the night’s ratings ladder, putting ABC News on 1.073m to seventh place, and Ten’s Masterchef on 1.042m to eighth spot.

Higher up the ladder, The Block took 1.274m in fourth place behind behind Seven News in second place with 1.383, and Nine News in third place with 1.364m.

In the tussle for the breakfast viewer, Seven’s Sunrise was back on top after a flurry of rare wins for Nine’s Today last week. Sunrise rated with 382,000 compared to Today’s 345,000. Ten’s Breakfast rated with just 22,000.

Overall, however, it was Nine’s night. The network had six shows in the top 10 and won convincingly with 33.5% channel share.
