No recommission for Three Drunk Monkeys’ 30 Seconds
Adland comedy 30 Seconds will not get a second series, Mumbrella can reveal.
Foxtel’s director of TV Brian Walsh told Mumbrella that although he was a fan of the show – written by Three Drunk Monkeys’ ECDs Scott Nowell and Justin Drape, and Tim Bullock from Prodigy Films – it had failed to resonate with the audience.
The six-part comedy, set at a fictional Sydney-based ad agency BND Worldwide, launched last year on The Comedy Channel. It was produced by Zapruder’s Other Films, the compnay behind the Gruen Transfer.
But speaking at the launch of Foxtel’s new season, Walsh told Mumbrella: “We’re not going to see another series of 30 Seconds. We gave it a good shot. It was a brave attempt.”

@ Alan. Funny thing is, shows like “Cooking in Prison” and “Inner City Sumo” would rate their absolute bollocks off.
Good on Three Drunk Monkeys for having a crack at being commercially creative beyond the realm of adland. The accountability in tvland is evidently higher. Doesn’t rate, it dies. There’s no false adulation there.
Shame.
Was really a well written and produced series.
Maybe they can sell it to the US, and stick it up Foxtel!
Since embarking on the :30 sec venture, I think they would have established pretty strong direct links with Foxtel (not to mention the old FTA channels) and whatever they do next will be all theirs, and not tied up with Zapruder.
Go Monkeys!
I watched the entire series just to see if it got any better – it didn’t. The only positive for me was the discovery of “Better off Ted” which followed directly after.
It’s not fair suggesting they stick it up Foxtel. Foxtel gave it a good go.
Not surprised it was axed. It was absolute rubbish. Unwatchable and totally cringe-worthy. Just not funny. Although it has to be said that the UK attempt at the same sort of thing, The Persuasionists, was even worse.
That’s a shame – I really liked it. Maybe you have to be in the industry to really get it?
in 20 years of trying and failing at sitcom the only thing that stands out as enduring is Kath and Kim. We just aren’t good at it.
good call. the show was dreadful.
I am really going to miss this brilliant show – i need my 30 Seconds… i love the Three Drunk Monkeys work and this is just a brilliant insight into the world of advertising.
