Along with the lack of ads, Dr Mumbo noticed something else curious about 2Day FM over the last 24 hours or so.
While its news bulletins eventually carried the story of the nurse in the UK who apparently took her life over the prank phone call, the casual listener would have no idea – unless they’d seen it elsewhere – that they were listening to the very network involved.
In all the bulletins Dr Mumbo has heard thus far, the station has referred only to its owner Southern Cross Austereo and “the network”.
Dr Mumbo suspects that most listeners will have worked it out for themselves anyway. And he rather fears it’s too late for this type of PR management anyhow.
