The National Rugby League’s head of marketing, digital and content, Lewis Pullen, is leaving the code to join insurance giant IAG.

After two-and-a-half years in the role at the football code, Pullen will begin his new role as marketing director at IAG Challenger next week.

The new division has been created to disrupt the general insurance market and to tackle the challenge of new entrants to the market.

In the new role Pullen will run brand and marketing across a range of IAG businesses including SGIO, SGIC, Berkshire Hathaway and the partnership with Coles Insurance.

“I have been attracted by the strong leadership and culture at IAG as well as their commitment to a customer-first approach to their business,” Pullen said, on his LinkedIn page.

“I am looking forward to working in a new industry, taking my brand marketing knowledge from airline, media and sport into this space.”

The former Air New Zealand and Qantas marketing executive joined the NRL in 2013 and moved quickly to develop the its branded news portal.

In the role he continued to extend the the NRL’s digital strategy, engaging fans and pursuing a major membership drive to support clubs.
