Toyota creates local version of Yaris ad promoting car as safe but fun
A new ad attempting to position the Toyota Yaris as safe but exciting has gone to air.
The ad was produced by creative agency Oddfellows and features a responsible father taking his daughter to buy her first car. The serious-looking girl squeals with excitement while the father steps away.
The ad is an almost shot-for-shot remake of an ad for the brand made by Saatchi & Saatchi in the US, even featuring each character wearing the same clothes and identical types of pictures on the reception desk.
Wow, that didn’t work very well did it.

Ahhhh the remake explains everything. My wife and I burst out laughing when this aired last night and couldn’t fathom what relevance it had to any target. Killing it Toyota. Way to save a few bucks and sell a few less cars.

A school-kid gets a brand new car?
What happened to buying a safe second-hand car to start out with?
Do these ad agencies think that every “dad” is on $200,000-500,000 a year?
Talk about living and writing inside a bubble of privilege…..

Hello 1992!

What a poor remake. Change the dialogue and complete lose the idea. Doh!
And yes, a poor cultural fit. In the states, they do buy new cars for senior high school and college kids, but looks dumb here.

The one where the tough-looking florist is buying the biggest HiLux in the showroom is a shitload funnier.

oh my, that’s awful.
Mike….get your hand off it…. they’re in the business of selling new cars (it’s just they’re doing it rather badly)
