Olympian Kyle Chalmers fronts campaign for razor company Wahl

Electric razor company Wahl has launched a new campaign starring Olympic swimmer Kyle Chalmers.

Part of the campaign includes a search for Australia’s “craziest lockdown beard”, with the prize being $2,500 worth of Wahl products.

The 60-second spot sees Chalmers going out to race before talking to his coach, only to come back to reveal he got silver “by a hair”. It is then revealed that if he had used a Wahl product, the Waterpool Stainless Steel Trimmer, he would have won the race. The ad references Chalmers’ placement during the Tokyo Olympics, where he came second in the 100m freestyle.

Wahl’s head of marketing Brett Clulow said: “[Kyle] was such a good sport when I showed him the idea for the campaign. Wahl is all about the closest of trims and expert grooming management, and Kyle really did come second ‘by a hair’.”

Clulow continued: “We are proud that the Wahl technology specially engineered to help anyone perform at their very best can ensure that Kyle shaves his time to secure that win and we look forward to supporting Kyle in the lead up to the 2022 Commonwealth Games, and the 2024 Paris Olympics to continue to perform at his absolute best.”

On the campaign, Chalmers said: “I was already a big fan of Wahl, so this was a great opportunity to showcase its products to as many people as possible. I’ve always been very focused on being the very best I possibly can be, and that’s their philosophy too.”

The TVC launches on 20 November with the campaign across digital, social media and PR. There are also 30-second cuts of the TVC.

The campaign concept was created by Clulow.
