OMD Melbourne’s Alex Smith joins Carat as client lead

Alex Smith – who was the client lead for Coles and Target at OMD Melbourne, where she was also managing partner – is switching agency groups, joining Dentsu Aegis Network’s Carat as client leader.

Smith was previously general manager at UM Worldwide, and moved across to OMD when the Coles account switched hands back in 2016.

Smith has worked on the Coles account for eight years

Over at Carat Melbourne, Smith will join the leadership team and has been charged with “driving outstanding media strategy and integrated Dentsu Aegis Network capabilities to help clients win, keep and grow customers”, the agency said.

Carat Melbourne managing director Joseph Pardillo said: “We are thrilled to have attracted Alex to Carat where we know she will make a huge impact on the team and our clients. She is an excellent cultural fit; client-centric, driven and with deep expertise to help our clients navigate the complexity and change within our industry.”

Smith commences her new role in June.

Omnicom Media Group’s CEO Peter Horgan and OMD’s CEO Aimee Buchanan thanked Smith for her hard work on the account, and wished her well in her next move.

OMD Melbourne is being run by Kenny Stewart, who stepped up from his role as group managing director of Queensland and Western Australia, following the departure of Dianne Richardson.

Richardson left the role after less than a year for family reasons. She had succeeded Margie Reid who left OMD after 11 years to join Adam Ferrier’s Thinkerbell as managing director.
