OMD taps ex-Leo Burnett strategy head Russ Mitchinson to lead McDonald’s strategy
Former head of strategy at Leo Burnett Russ Mitchinson has made the leap from creative agency world to join Australia’s largest media agency OMD.
Mitchinson will lead the strategy function on the McDonald’s business at OMD, after leaving the lead strategy role at the creative agency back in August.
Mark Jarrett, MD OMD Sydney said: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome a strategist of Russ’ calibre to the OMD Australia team. His experience will inject a fresh approach to our thinking and help drive forward our strategic output for both McDonald’s and the wider agency.”
Mitchinson was in the role at Leos where he worked on the McDobald’s McCafe business among other accounts for 18 months and before that was planning partner at DDB Sydney.
He is also a former chairman of the Account Planning Group at the Communications Council.
He said: “We live in exciting times, with new and unexpected ways to engage consumers in ideas… which can come from anywhere.
“I bring a deeper level of brand knowledge, and always put people first. I’ve consistently respected the quality of thinking from OMD, and I look forward to driving the strategic product and helping to grow the business.”
