Papermill finds first MD in iD Collective’s Sarah Young

Full-service comms agency Papermill has appointed its first-ever managing director in its 14-year history, aiming to kick-start its next phase of growth.

iD Collective’s managing director, Sarah Young, joins the agency with over 17 years of experience across agencyland.

Young joins the agency from iD Collective

She joins founder and director Ashleigh Spencer-Shirley, strategy and operations director Nate Richardson, and client services director Lucy Wilkinson, rounding out the leadership team – with the hopes of driving further growth and capitalising on new market opportunities.

Spencer-Shirley said the time was right to bring on a MD.

“Having started this business with nothing but a laptop on my kitchen bench in 2010 to creating the multiservice agency we are today, I’m incredibly proud of the organic business growth and reputation that we have fostered,” she said.

“We have such a talented director team in place that each bring different skillsets to underpin our multi-service offering and we are now primed for our next phase with Sarah and Nate at the helm.”

She said Young will focus on new opportunities and business streams, while also expanding on the agency’s consumer and lifestyle divisions.

This will allow Spencer-Shirley to “focus on [her] true passions which are media strategy, issues management and client retention.

“We were fortunate enough to retain almost all of our clients through Covid who valued our input as a strategic partner. We are now a much stronger business for it with a clear vision of the path ahead and our service expertise,” she concluded.

Young said she knew the role was right for her when she met Spencer-Shirley, with their visions for the agency aligning perfectly.

“Ashleigh has built such a strong team and an incredible reputation in the industry. Knowing we align on values and vision, I’m really excited to work with her and the wider team throughout the next evolution of Papermill,” she said.

Papermill’s client roster includes the City of Melbourne, Charter Hall, ISPT and Saint Haven, a new Australian private wellness club.
