PayPal nabs former Allianz marketing boss, Dominic Brandon

Paypal Australia has appointed Dominic Brandon, former head of marketing and brand at Allianz Australia, to a new role as head of brand.

The announcement comes following Brandon’s departure from Allianz in August last year, after eight years with the insurance company.

In his time at Allianz, Brandon was most well-known for driving the award-winning ‘Ahhh-lianz’ brand campaigns.

It is understood a new agency has won the Allianz account, with the ‘Ahh-lianz’ tagline disappearing from an ad released in December, which focused on getting consumers “inspired” by the cars they insure instead.

Last week, Mercerbell, the creative agency behind the ‘Ahh-lianz’ ads, confirmed it did not participate in the pitch process for Allianz’s creative account.

Elaine Herlihy, marketing director for PayPal Australia said Brandon’s arrival was in perfect time for company.

“We established the head of brand to further invest in the local marketing team and continue to build on PayPal’s strong leadership position in Australia. We will be drawing on Dominic’s wealth of knowledge and depth of experience in 2017 and beyond,” Herlihy said.

Brandon said he is looking forward to working with a digital payments company in a time of “significant change.”

“Australians are early adopters of technology innovations such as mobile commerce and NFC which make managing and moving their money easier. I am looking forward to working with the experienced team at PayPal Australia at this transformative time for the brand,” Brandon said.
