Pedestrian TV launches awards for ‘trending moments’

Pedestrian TV has launched an inaugural awards ceremony to celebrate Australia’s biggest ‘trending moments’, to be known as The Pezzys.

The Pezzys, which will run tonight in partnership with crystalware maker Swarovski, will celebrate some of the biggest highlights of the last 12 months including Triple J’s decision to move the date of the Hottest 100, Sophie Monk dominating on the Bachelorette and Afterpay’s massive growth.

Awards can be won in eight different categories; food (‘Get Forked’), sport (‘Achievement in Sports Ball’), music (‘Guitar Hero’), breaking the internet, ‘Strayan of the Year, TV, movies and streaming (‘Don’t believe me, just watch’), business (‘Like a Boss) and breakthrough talent.

Those who win will be awarded a ‘Pezzy’ trophy – known as a Golden Shoey – and a Swarovski Atlantis watch.

James McManus, head of creative projects at Pedestrian TV, said The Pezzys were a chance to celebrate local talent.

“The 2018 Pezzys will be one of Pedestrian’s biggest shindigs to date and an industry first in celebrating local trending moments. These are the moments that dominated conversations, social media and defined the last 12months in Australia,” McManus said.

Billy Mitchell, PR and communications manager, Swarovski, said the brand was looking forward to beginning its inaugural partnership.

“Swarovski is excited to partner with Pedestrian TV to celebrate Australian pop culture’s iconic moments from the past year. As a brand, Swarovski has played an integral part of some of the most historic global pop culture moments and is therefore thrilled to honour the Australian industry leaders of the past year across key categories through our sponsorship of the inaugural Pezzys,” Mitchell said.
