Perth radio ratings: Mix slips back but retains FM crown as 96FM sheds younger listeners

Screen Shot 2015-04-21 at 10.32.35 AMMix 94.5 remained well clear of rivals in Perth despite losing one share point in the second radio ratings survey of the year.

The station took just under 14 per cent of the market, still 2.6 points clear of Australian Radio Network’s 96FM which fell 0.2 points to 11.3 per cent.

ARN, which acquired 96FM from Fairfax at the end of last year, saw listeners in the 10 to 17 age bracket switch off in droves with the station’s share falling 6.3 points to just four per cent. It was partially offset by a sharp 4.4 point increase in the 18 to 24 demographic to 16.5 per cent.

The battle for second place behind Mix remained as tight as ever with Nova 93.7 taking 11.1 per cent, a slight fall of 0.3 points on the previous survey.

Mix, owned by Southern Cross Austereo, endured a tough ratings period with its breakfast share falling 2.2 points to 12.7 per cent while in the drive time slot it fell from 14.7 to 13.3 per cent.

The breakfast decline enabled Nova93.7 to narrow the gap after its share climbed 0.8 points to 11.5 per cent. It also extended its lead in the drive slot despite Kate, Tim, and Marty seeing a one point fall to 14.1 per cent.

In the AM band, ABC720 retained its top ranking with an overall audience share of 10.7 per cent, a rise of 0.4 points. It was also has the most listened to breakfast show overall with a share of 15 per cent.
