PHD names Google’s Liam Pook as head of digital for Melbourne office

Google alumnus Liam Pook has joined PHD as Melbourne’s head of digital, a role that sees him relocate from the UK.

While Pook was at Google for almost three years, most recently as digital innovation strategist, he has a history in agencies, having worked at the likes of Essence, Digitas and Starcom.

The new role will see him work across all Melbourne-based clients, including ANZ, Carlton United Breweries, Priceline, 7-Eleven, Porsche and the AFL. Pook will lead the office’s digital output, bringing together digital, data and tech solutions.

“I’m excited to contribute to the incredible growth the PHD Melbourne team has achieved since opening their doors. In particular, I’m looking forward to drawing on my experience both agency and client side to help solve client challenges, uncover new and innovative opportunities, and push PHD’s digital capabilities into 2020 and beyond,” Pook, who will report into Melbourne’s general manager Simon Lawson, said.

“The PHD Melbourne team has a strong reputation for great quality work, and a solid work culture. I’m thrilled to be joining a group of like-minded individuals who are passionate about ‘what’s next’ in the industry, and care deeply about the work they deliver, as well as the people around them.”

Lawson said the recruitment process took time, but waiting for Pook was the right choice.

“It took some time to find the right candidate, but I’m glad we waited. I’m looking forward to seeing how Liam works with our group of clients to make the leap forward to more creative and effective digital experiences,” he said.
