Production company Photoplay Films has signed the Swedish directing duo known as RBG6.

The announcement:

Photoplay Films is excited to announce the recent signing of award-winning Swedish directing duo RBG6 for representation in Australia and New Zealand.

RBG6 is made up of directors Joel Nordström and Lars Ohlin. Their unique aesthetic and narrative style is driven by a background in graphic design and their films always manage a fine balance between highly stylised art direction and an ever playful, often quirky, approach to storytelling.

“We’re thrilled to be collaborating with these guys,” says Photoplay executive producer Oliver Lawrance. “In fact we have referenced their work in so many projects, they’ve always been a source of inspiration,” he added.

Speaking of their creative process, Ohlin explains: “Over the years we have established a common visual language between the two of us, where we know exactly what fits into our visual universe,” Ohlin said.

“Our initial work in film was more or less moving still-life installations and since then, we have been keen to add more complexity to the work we do in terms of storytelling; the way we use the camera, directing actors and working close with the set designer – we are very picky on props and the sets we build,” he added.

Working in Sweden, the U.K., Europe and the U.S., RBG6 has lent its unique visual style to a number of international clients including IKEA, H&M, Target, Sony, Joost, McDonalds and SAAB. They look forward to entering a new market in partnership with Photoplay.

“Choosing Photoplay was a no brainer for us,” Nordström said. “We share the same desire for playful and creative solutions and we really look forward to the collaboration.”

RBG6 has been recently recognised with two Golds at Cannes in the Cyber category for its work for IKEA, along with a Best Digital Poster at The Creative Circle for campaign Orange ‘Rainbow’. They also took home a British Television Advertising Awards (BTAA) for Best New Director.
