Pippa Leary joins Swift Media as CEO

Nine’s commercial director of digital sales Pippa Leary will become CEO of out-of-home tech company Swift Media.

Leary announced in March she was stepping down from Nine to focus on her board roles – which include the IAB and Rugby League Players Association – however she now commences her role with Swift Media at the beginning of August.

Swift Media describes itself as a “diversified technology, content and advertising solutions provider”. It “provides the technology to deliver premium entertainment content and advertising services on connected screens out of home”.  In December last year, the company acquired digital out-of-home network Medical Media.

Leary – who also spent time heading up Fairfax Digital’s media sales operations – said she was excited by the opportunities in front of Swift Media.

“As a digital out-of-home marketing platform, the fundamentals of Swift are strongly positive. The team has built a profitable business servicing client with communication and entertainment solutions in the key verticals of mining, aged care, hospitality and health. The recent acquisition of Medical Media has allowed Swift to further diversify its revenue streams and move into adjacent markets,” she said.

“The key driver of Swift’s current success is its passionate team with a positive culture of continuous innovation. I am confident that adding Darren Smorgon as chairman and myself as CEO sets the business up to take Swift’s products, revenue and profitability to the next level.”

Smorgon was previously non-executive director of the business and now adds non-executive chairman to his resume. He has been on the Swift Media board since February, but was previously on the Medical Media board for three years.

He said he was excited to increase his involvement of the business, and noted the foundations built by outgoing CEO Xavier Kris.

Leary can now build “a new type of media business”, he said.

This sentiment was echoed by Swift director Robert Sofoulis, who said the two appointments marked a new chapter for the business.

Pippa brings a formidable track record of creating value for shareholders of companies that operate in markets where communications, content and advertising interface, and I look forward to her leading the next phase of Swift Media’s growth.

I wish to recognise and thank our outgoing CEO Xavier Kris, for his valued contribution to the growth of the company during his tenure of three years as CEO – a period during which Swift achieved significant operational and strategic development.”
