Podschool creator Rachel Corbett joins Mamamia as head of podcasts

Rachel Corbett, journalist, podcaster and founder of Podschool, has joined Mamamia as director of podcasts.

She replaces Monique Bowley, creator of Mamamia Podcast Network, who departed the company a few weeks ago.

Corbett’s career started in radio, where she worked on breakfast shows including Hit 929, Triple M Melbourne and Sydney, and Hit 107.

In September last year, she founded Podschool – an online course designed to give people the knowledge they need to start making podcasts. In March, Corbett created her own podcast – You’ve Gotta Start Somewhere.

Alongside her new role at Mamamia, Corbett will continue to run Podschool.

Mamamia’s head of content, Holly Wainwright, said bringing Corbett in would help “evolve” the women’s audio landscape.

“Women’s voices and women’s stories are still in the minority on commercial radio. We have 23 women speaking across Mamamia’s podcast network and 60,000 women who are listening to one of our shows each day. This clearly demonstrates the appetite for female-led audio content,” said Wainwright.

“Bringing Rachel into the Mamamia team will enhance our plans to innovate and evolve the women’s audio landscape. She will also be creating written content as a columnist across all of Mamamia’s assets, as one of Australia’s most respected social commentators”.

Corbett said she was excited to work with Mamamia and build on its podcasting success.

“The sky’s the limit when it comes to podcasting and the team at Mamamia is committed to experimenting with new ideas and investing in new shows. As a content creator that’s an exciting thing to be a part of.

“After almost four years working for myself I wouldn’t have gotten out of my trackie pants for just anyone.”
