Producer Cecilia Ritchie to join Aquarius Films

Producer Cecilia Ritchie will be joining the Sydney office of boutique film and television production company, Aquarius Films.

The announcement:

Aquarius Films today announced that producer Cecilia Ritchie will join the Sydney office of the boutique film and television production company. Founded in 2007 by Angie Fielder and Polly Staniford, Aquarius Films already has a range of film and television drama projects in development, and Cecilia’s focus on factual will round out its diverse slate.

Previously a producer with Matchbox Pictures (THE SLAP, UNDERGROUND: THE JULIAN ASSANGE STORY), Cecilia’s credits include a number of documentary projects for ABC1 including the 6 x 30 minute series NEXT STOP HOLLYWOOD and the award-winning indie SEARCHING 4 SANDEEP. Her short drama credits include POP and TENDER. Cecilia comes from a development background, having previously worked as a literary agent for Shanahan Management and screenplay assessor for Icon Shanahan Productions.

Aquarius Films’ previous projects include the feature drama WISH YOU WERE HERE, starring Joel Edgerton, which won five Film Critics Circle of Australia awards earlier this year, and David Michôd’s critically acclaimed shorts I LOVE SARAH JANE, CROSSBOW and NETHERLAND DWARF.

Cecilia joins Aquarius Films at an exciting period of growth for the company. It recently received funding through Screen Australia’s Feature Enterprise Program for its slate of feature film projects. They include MEMORIAL DAY, the second feature from WISH YOU WERE HERE writer/director Kieran Darcy-Smith; the film adaptation of the novel THE SECOND COMING by David Barker; the film adaptation of the Melanie Joosten novel BERLIN SYNDROME, written by Shaun Grant (SNOWTOWN) and directed by Cate Shortland (LORE, SOMERSAULT); romantic comedy THE POST OFFICE written by Emma Vuletic and Justine Flynn and a Bollywood inspired dance drama, SALSA MASALA. Aquarius Films is also developing a variety of TV series including comedy/drama SLEEPLESS written by Alice Bell (PUBERTY BLUES, THE SLAP); gothic, colonial psychological thriller VERA GRAY and mockumentary comedy F**K OFF I’M WITH THE BAND.

Aquarius Films is currently in production on THE NIGHTINGALE AND THE ROSE, an animated short film based on the original story by Oscar Wilde and the paintings of two-time Archibald winner Del Kathryn Barton. The film is co-directed by Barton and Brendan Fletcher (MAD BASTARDS) and production funding has been provided by Screen Australia.
