QLD confirms Spielberg TV project Terra Nova
The Queensland Government has confirmed that the Steven Spielberg production Terra Nova will be shot in Queensland in October, generating $54m for the state economy.
“Fox Broadcasting has today confirmed Queensland as the location of choice for Terra Nova, which comes from the brilliant minds of Steven Spielberg and Peter Chernin and once again shows Queensland’s ability to attract first rate productions to the state,” said Premier Anna Bligh.
The 13-part series will be shot in South East Queensland, including the Warner Roadshow Studios on the Gold Coast. Bligh anticipated that 80 percent of the crew, cast and extra would be locals.
The series is set in a future when the world is dying from over-development and overcrowding. As a last resort scientists find a way to go back to prehistoric Earth to try and undo the damage that has been caused.
In a statement, Screen Queensland CEO Maureen Barron went as far as to speculate about the series’ second season, which “would hopefully bring additional production to Queensland”.
With the release of Tomorrow When The War Began and this new project we are defiantly seeing a much needed increase for the Australian film industry. This project sounds amazing. And If further casting information is available be sure to keep us posted. We would love to be a part of it’s success.
