Radio ratings: Fordham making fast ground on Kyle and Jackie O

The second-last radio survey of 2023 contains a number of hot battles, including a four-way race in Brisbane, a three-way battle in Perth, and a very smooth leap in Sydney.

SYDNEY

2GB and KIIS have both risen during this survey, with 2GB jumping 1.3% to command a 12.4% hold over the Sydney market, and KIIS up a more modest 0.6% to sit at 11.5%.

But it’s smoothfm that is worth watching, jumping 1.5% to reach 10.6% – the only contender to possibly shake the two-station hold over the Sydney market.

Kyle and Jackie O are number one in Breakfast, although Ben Fordham has tightened the gap, with just 0.1% in it. Between the two shows, they command close to a third of the Sydney Breakfast market.

Sydney loves to slide on home to the sultry sounds of smoothfm and Byron Webb in Drive, it would seem, with the easy-listening station taking 11% of the market, ahead of Will & Woody’s 10.8% over on KIIS.

MELBOURNE

3AW has lost 2.3% overall, a huge drop for the talk station, but not enough to lose the crown. GOLD will be worrying them though, with its 12.4% hold – although they also dropped from last survey, albeit a more modest 0.3%.

Ross Stevenson and Russel Howcroft have a commanding lead in Breakfast on 3AW, with 18.5% – although the FM battle is a little more heated. Christian O’Connell has 11.5% on GOLD, although has lost 0.7% since Survey 6. Fifi, Fev & Nick on FOXFM, however, have jumped from 9.5% to 11%. May the best show win!

BRISBANE

NOVA has managed to slightly extend its lead over the pack, after KIIS973 came within 0.1% of the leader in the last survey.

Now, sitting on 12.1% — 0.3% clear– its MMM they have to watch, with the rock station climbing 0.4% to reach 11.8%, leapfrogging KIIS to take second place. B105 and KIIS are tied for third with 11.5%. It’s very much a four-station race, adding some excitement to the second-last survey of the year.

Marto, Margaux and Dan on Triple M have become contenders for breakfast, climbing 1.1% to take 13.2%, just 0.3% behind NOVA’s Ash, Luttsy & Susie with 13.5%. B105’s Stav, Abby & Matt won Survey 5, but have since faded to a distant third.

NOVA has easily taken drive again, with the combo of Ricki-Lee, Tim & Joel drawing 14.1% of listeners, well ahead of Carrie and Tommy on B105 (11.3%) and KIIS 973’s Will and Woody (11.2%).

ADELAIDE

MMM continues its command over the Adelaide market with a mighty 14.9% market share.

Triple M’s Roo, Ditts & Loz have rocketed up 4.7% to take a huge 16.9% of Breakfast, well ahead of Breakfast with David Penberthy and Will Goodings on Fiveaa, at 10.9%. Over on ABC Adelaide, Breakfast with Stacey Lee and Nikolai Beilharz took 10.1%.

Nova 91.9’s national Ricki-Lee, Tim & Joel show has been toppled by The Rush Hour with Bernie, Blewey & Jars, who drew 14.1% over to Triple M, compared to Nova’s 12.1% –  a huge drop from 13.8%.

PERTH

MIX 94.5’s takes number one in Perth, with 13.4% edging out NOVA93.7 (13.2%) and 96FM on 13%. Like Brisbane, this is a hotly contended market.

Nathan, Nat & Shaun lost 4.7% in Breakfast this survey, a huge drop for NOVA, but not enough to see them lose #1 – with an impressive 15.7%. MIX 94.5’s Pete, Matt & Kymba climbing a modest 0.1% to sit at 12.8%,

NOVA’s Ricki-Lee, Tim & Joel has a huge lead in Drive, with 15.9% of the audience, and only Mix 94.5’s Carrie & Tommy (13.4%) and 96FM’s Will & Woody at 11.8% close to troubling them.
