Radio ratings: Hadley finishes on top, as Kyle and Jackie’s woes continue

The final survey of 2024 sees Ray Hadley go out on top, Jase and Lauren dominate Melbourne, and Triple M continue to rock Adelaide.

SYDNEY

Smooth is Sydney’s top station again, after WS-FM took the crown last book from KIIS – who in turn took it from 2GB. It’s the most competitive the Sydney radio scene has been for quite some time, and it’s good to see.

Ben Fordham has reclaimed Breakfast from Kyle and Jackie O, jumping 2.8% compared to K+J’s 0.4 leap to take a healthy 1.6 point lead.

Last survey, 2GB’s Ray Hadley dropped to third spot in Mornings, marking the first time he hadn’t won his slot for twenty years, his fall from the top neatly dovetailing with the announcement of his retirement. Likewise, popular ABC Sydney host Sarah Macdonald is also bowing out of Mornings, although hers isn’t by choice.

Hadley reclaimed the crown for 2GB, with a 2.6% boost seeing him climb to 13.7, above smoothfm’s 13.1. Phil O’Neil took the top slot for WS-FM last book, but fell to third this time. Unfortunately, Macdonald dropped 1.3 points, after climbing 2.1 in the prior book.

MELBOURNE

The battle for FM breakfast continues, although you wouldn’t know it when looking at Jase and Lauren’s commanding 11.5 share, some 2.1% clear of Fifi, Fev & Nick on the Fox. Meanwhile Kyle and Jackie drop another 0.1% – ending the year with just 5% of the market.

Smooth is again the top FM station (over on AM, 3AW trumps everything) pulling 0.8% ahead of nearest rival GOLDFM on 10.2%, with NOVA picking up a point to climb to 10%. As you’ll see in the other cities, NOVA has ended 2024 on an impressive note.

ADELAIDE

Triple M rules Adelaide, being the top station overall, as well as ruling the roost in Breakfast, Mornings, and Arvos – although Nova’s split drive/evening shift between Ben, Liam & Belle, and Ricki-Lee, Tim & Joel has radio lovers changing the dial from 4pm.

PERTH

Last book, 96FM saw its lead over NOVA decrease from 1.1% to a tighter 0.7%, and now the station has been toppled, as NOVA picks up 0.8 points to take the top spot, while 96FM loses 0.5 to slip into second.

BRISBANE

B105 remains the top station in Brisbane, adding 0.2 points to take a 13.3% hold, some 1.6% points ahead of Triple M at 11.7, who are being chased down by NOVA, who picked up 0.9 points to hit 11.4.

B105’s Stav, Abby, and Matt is 1.9% clear of its competitors in breakfast, but NOVA’s Ash, Luttsy & Susie O’Neill have raced into second place for O’Neill’s final survey, moving past Triple M’s Marto, Margaux & Dan and Robin & Kip at KIIS, to command a 12.2 listenership.
