The Block dominates Sunday ratings in a big weekend of sport

The Block topped the ratings and Ten’s MasterChef had a lift  in the absence of Seven’s House Rules from Sunday’s schedule on a big weekend for sport on Seven and Ten.

Channel Nine’s The Block had an increase of 50,000 viewers on last week and topped OzTAM’s overnight metro ratings  with an audience of 1.636m, as well as being the top-rated show among 25-54s.

Ten’s MasterChef had 853,000 viewers for the ‘mystery box challenge’, bringing it from 14th place last week to tenth, and the fifth most popular program for 25-54s.

Seven’s best performer was a crime investigation into the unsolved ‘family court murders’ on Sunday Night which aired from 6.30-8.30pm. Period drama A Place To Call Home rated 1.13m for Seven.

It was also a good night for sports on Seven with the Wimbledon men’s final and V8 Supercars race in Townsville.

The Wimbledon final in which Andy Murray defeated Novak Djokovic and became the first Brit to win the tournament since 1936 brought 306,000 viewers to Channel Seven and 292,000 on 7Two for the start of the match broadcast on the east coast from 11pm on 7Two and 11.30pm on Seven. Ratings for the final part of the match after 2am will be available tomorrow.

The V8 Supercars round seven in Townsville had 214,000 viewers on Seven but was not shown in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.

Ten broadcast the final match between the British and Irish Lions and Qantas Wallabies on Saturday night scored 875,000 metro viewers.

Weekend Sunrise on Sunday had an audience of 366,000 compared with 311,000 for Weekend Today on Channel Nine.

Nine won the night with 23 per cent of the audience over Seven’s 21.3 per cent.
