Ratings Game: Guess the ratings for State of Origin and win a Mumbrella Sports Marketing Summit pass

Every morning the news team at Mumbrella plays the ratings game – where we guess how many viewers tuned in to watch a particular show.

And it’s that time of year again when Dr Mumbo opens it up to you to guess the ratings for one of the biggest TV events of the year, the opening game of the State of Origin series which kicks off in Brisbane just after 8pm tonight.

The rules are simple: the closest correct guess for the finalised, time-adjusted, average capital city audience for the telecast on Nine, wins.

To enter, just post your guess for how the show will rate in the comment thread below, but make sure you leave your correct email address so we can contact you with the prize – if you don’t, you can’t win and it will go to the next correct guess.

The cut-off time is 8.00am on Thursday, June 1, and we’ll be announcing the winner – the guess closest to the time-adjusted OzTAM metro rating for the broadcast on Nine – when the results come in at around 9:15am.

If there are two correct guesses, the one submitted earliest will win the prize – a free pass to the Mumbrella Sports Marketing Summit, being held at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Wednesday, June 21.

Speakers include AFL legend Matthew Pavlich, Seattle Seahawks digital guru Kenton Olson, Australian Paralympic Committee boss Lynne Anderson, Aussie netball superstar Cailtin Bassett, KFC’s Sally Spriggs and Cricket Australia digital boss Finn Bradshaw.

Some helpful hints:

Last year’s State of Origin Game 1 managed 2.708m for Nine, a record audience for the series and well up on the previous year’s 2.432m viewers.

Last year’s Game 2 was watched by 2.404m viewers, and the previous year had 2.616m, so audiences can go down as well as up.

Remember OzTAM ratings don’t measure out-of-home viewing – i.e. people watching in pubs and clubs.

Check back just after 9:00am tomorrow morning when we will announce the winner. Good luck.
