Rebekah Horne set for digital role at Ten

Horne: Set for Ten?

Former MySpace Australia boss Rebekah Horne may be about to join Network Ten, speculation suggests.

The rumour – reaching Mumbrella from a usually reliable source – suggests that Horne will come on board in a strategy role. Given her strong digital experience – as well as being MySpace’s first local employee, she helped set up dmgRadio’s music streaming joint venture with Rdio – it would be likely her position at Ten would focus on digital development.

Most recently Horne was in the US as launch CEO of Google-backed social commerce venture TopFloor. However, she indicated at the time that she intended to return to Australia in the new year.

When she left Australia for that role she indicated that she intended to continue to consult with dmgRadio upon her return. It is unclear whether she would continue to do this alongside her role at Ten.

Horne was tonight not answering her phone and nobody at Ten could be reached for comment.

Horne’s arrival would come at a key time for Ten. The network has the youngest audience and while this risks the speediest fragmentation to other media, it also offers opportunities to grow the broadcaster’s slice of the catch-up TV pie. There also remains a conversation to be had amongst Australia’s broadcasters over a unified catch-up offering similar to those offered in the US and UK.

Companion viewing apps are also likely to be a key battleground for the networks in the coming months.
