Resurrection launches to 1.9m to help Seven dominate the TV night

Seven launched one of its most highly anticipated dramas of the year Resurrection to 1.911m last night, lifting its audience from 1.721m for the My Kitchen Rules eviction and helping the network win a 31.8 per cent audience share according to OzTam.

Resurrection was one of Seven’s most anticipated shows of 2014 lineup along with the two-part miniseries about the Australian band INXS which had 1.974m for the first part and 1.768m for the second, both of which ran on Sunday nights.

The drama created by Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B and ABC Studios in the US, centres on the story of a boy who returns to his family 32 years after he disappeared looking exactly as he did the day he left. It has developed a large following on social media and received wide coverage in the press.

While Nine got 1.34m in the 7.30pm slot with The Block, its strongest Tuesday yet for the show, Ten’s The Biggest Loser had 268,000 at 7.30pm, its lowest audience number to date, ranking 35th in all programs.

The Biggest Loser was also beaten in its timeslot by SBS’s repeat of the British documentary The Queen’s Mother In Law, which rated 313,000.

Nine kept 944,000 viewers for a new episode of The Big Bang theory on at 8.44pm, with a repeat of The Big Bang Theory following at 9.12pm to 770,000.

A news investigation special ‘The Mystery of Flight 370 – What Happened?’ on Nine at 9.40pm had 479,000, and Nine had a 22.2 per cent share of the audience in all people.

Ten had 429,000 and 414,000 for NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS respectively from 8.30pm, while its strongest performing show was Ten Eyewitness News with 657,000 at 5pm, followed by The Project which had 501,000 from 7pm, helping the channel win a 9 per cent audience share.

ABC1 was third for the night with an audience share of 10.5 per cent, as its primetime shows 7.30, New Tricks and Foreign Correspondent were all third in their timeslots and ranked between 16th and 20th in all programs.

Seven won the morning battle with Sunrise winning 331,000 as Today brought 287,000 to Channel Nine.

And in evening news Nine was the strongest with 1.227m for the first half hour of Nine News from 6pm and 1.104m from 6.30pm as Seven News had 1.084m and 1.047m from 6.30pm.

In subscription television ratings, The Face Australia with Naomi Campbell picked up 20,000 viewers on last week as it recorded a total audience of 60,000 on Fox8.
