Return of test cricket dominates ratings as Aussies dominate South Africa

The opening of summer’s cricket season against South Africa dominated the evening with 832,000 viewers tuning into the third session in the 6:30pm-8:45pm slot last night.

With Australia at the crease, having bowled South Africa out, the third session of the day from Perth was the most watched of the three sessions in the day.

373,000 viewers tuned into the first session at 12:30pm, and 569,000 viewers watching the second session at 4:30pm.

The program was the most watched non-news program across the key advertising demographics (16-39, 18-49, 25-54).

Home and Away, which aired against the test at 7pm had an audience of 694,000 which was ahead of last week’s audience of 692,000. 

Airing at 7:30pm, the season three premiere of Ten’s David Attenborough’s Natural Curiosities pulled in an audience of 343,000.

In news, Seven dominated the night, with an audience of 1.053m at 6:00pm and 1.007m at 6:30pm.

Nine had an audience of 925,000 at the 6pm slot.

At 8:00pm, the second episode of Attenborough’s program gained viewers from the premiere, with 348,000 tuning in to the show.

Despite the climb in viewers, Silvia’s Italian Table was ahead of the program with an audience of 405,000.

In the shares, Nine dominated the evening at 19.1% ahead of Seven at 18.2% and Ten’s audience share of 11.4%. The ABC had a share of 10.5% and SBS a share of 5%.
