Riminton back on the beat as Ten restructures news bulletins

Ten’s Walkley Award winning newsman Hugh Riminton is back on the beat after a newsdesk restructure which will see the 5pm bulletins in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane presented by a single newsreader.

Hugh Riminton is returning to reporting as Ten moves to a single newsreader model.

Riminton, who joined Ten in 2009 as senior political correspondent before rising to become co-presenter of the bulletin with Sandra Sully in Sydney, will assume a senior reporter role specialising in political and foreign coverage as well as special investigations.

Working with Ten reporter Matt Moran, Riminton was responsible for Ten’s last Walkley Award win for excellence in journalism in 2011 when they exposed the Australian Defence Force Skype scandal.

The shift brings the Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane bulletins into line with Adelaide and Perth which have used a single presenter for several years, with Sully presenting Sydney, Stephen Quartermain taking the reins in Melbourne and Georgina Lewis hosting in Brisbane.

Ten’s executive director of news, John Choueifate, said moving to single presenters, with Candace Wyatt and Lachlan Kennedy also moving to senior reporter roles, would be a positive move.

“Our viewers know that we always bring them the stories that are most important to them,” Choueifate said.

“We have had single presenters of our 5pm News in Adelaide and Perth for years. It makes sense to move to that model in the other cities and, at the same time, strengthen our reporting teams.

“Hugh, Candice and Lachlan are quality journalists who add years of experience to our reporting line-up. I’m thrilled to have them back on the road.”
