ROAM magazine’s co-founder Rod Breum departs

ROAM Magazine’s editor and co-founder, Rod Breum, is set to depart after five years.

Breum and co-founder Phillip Terry launched the free specialist caravan, RV and travel publication in 2013, aiming to cater to the Australian recreational vehicle market.

Since then, the bi-monthly publication has appeared in holiday and tourist parks, visitor information centres, and caravan dealerships.

As Breum leaves the publication, he will be replaced by editor of NRMA’s Caravan+RV Magazine Brendan Batty, who will take on the role of managing editor; and former Caravan and Camping with Kids magazine founder and managing editor, David Thorndike, who will become associate editor.

Commenting on the new appointments Breum said: “They join ROAM’s legendary travel writers Mal and Laraine Leyland, who have more miles under their belts than anyone.

“They’re back on the road filing stories, collectively with more than a century of professional Aussie travel experience. Over the past two years, the 1970s TV icons helped make ROAM a firm favourite with the crucial cashed up grey nomad travel segment.

“Brendan and David will help us build on this as a digital and print publisher; continuing to grow our readership with other key segments in the recreational travel market including young families and couples.”

Phil Terry, the magazine’s other co-founder added: “It has been perhaps one of the most challenging times in history to launch a magazine, but we firmly believe building a strong niche with engaging and credible editorial content presented in digital and print is key to survival in the fast-changing media market.

“Coming from the highly respected NRMA stable, our new managing editor Brendan Batty adds to our credibility and will build on the strong reputation Rod has established for quality engaging content across all platforms including online and social media. I’m sure Brendan’s arrival will be welcomed by our loyal followers.”
