The Roar launches 2017 Club Roar Awards for club level sports videos

Australian sports opinion website, The Roar, is set to launch its first Club Roar Awards, offering a $10,000 prize for the best videos of local sports competitions, to players, teams and clubs.

The new initiative by parent company Conversant Media, aims to reward the clubs and fans who have supported Club Roar since its launch.

Entries, which close on 24 July, can include match highlights and lowlights, demonstrations of skill, and the finest women’s sporting moments.

The awards are part of Club Roar’s wider plan to become Australia’s leading user-generated content sports video site.

Chief executive of Conversant Media, Zac Zavos, said The Roar’s short form video and highlights packages made by fans, follow AOL reserach in February 2017, which indicated 32% of consumers were watching videos less than five minutes long.

“We know that people love this content as we have had over 9 million views of local legends playing grassroots sport. Putting them on The Roar has turned club players into Internet sensations, reaching millions of Australia’s sporting die-hards,” Zavos said.

“The most memorable moments in a game are what our audiences really want to see.”
