Romano Beck celebrates tenth anniversary

Melbourne-based PR agency Romano Beck is celebrating ten years of business.

The announcement:

Known for long-standing client relationships with Emirates Airline, Piper-Heidsieck, L’Oréal Group, DoorDash, F45 Group, and Chadstone, alongside its association with major Australian events, including the Australian Open, Australian Fashion Week, Australian Grand Prix, Commonwealth Games (Gold Coast & Birmingham) and the Melbourne Cup Carnival, Romano Beck has been trailblazing with its bold, caring and memorable brand promise since 2014.

Storytellers by trade, the 25-person Australian creative communications agency for public relations, event management, sponsorship, content and influencer marketing are celebrating with a tongue-in-cheek content series featuring company founders Judy Romano and Gareth Beck alongside first employees and current General Managers Steph Hamer and Liana Sorace.

Founded by Judy Romano, a seasoned professional who this July marks 35 years in the industry, and Gareth Beck, a young PR prodigy now with two decades under his belt, Romano Beck set out on a unique journey in 2014. Their mission was to redefine the public relations landscape with a fresh approach, encapsulated in their bold strapline ‘PR is changing, and so are we ‘. This commitment to change, alongside its fast and fearless approach, has driven the agency’s success.

On the milestone, Judy Romano said, “I’ve always had an aversion to PR people and have battled against the spin that is so commonly associated with the trade. I’ve worked hard with Gareth and our team to bring value back to our trade, earned through honesty, access, curiosity and brutal simplicity. So often, public relations is an end thought for marketing teams, unless the proverbial hits the fan. We have been fortunate to earn the trust of our illustrious client list, allowing us to lead PR-first campaigns, some of which have been replicated worldwide as best practice.”

Reflecting on a decade, Gareth Beck said, “We’ve always been acutely aware that you’re only as good as your last gig. We have worked hard on client and staff relationships and have above-industry retention. We couldn’t be more proud of some of the humans we’ve had the pleasure of working with, including our General Managers Steph Hamer and Liana Sorace, who have been in the business for 10 and nine years, respectively.”

“It hasn’t been all smooth sailing for the business, having been through a pandemic, the complete change in working culture and the great resignation, all of which have been hugely humbling and have built resilience,” concluded Beck.

The company’s foundation clients were Emirates Airline for the Melbourne Cup Carnival and the Australian Open, Mercedes-Benz Australia, including partnerships with sport and culture, Smile Solutions, the iconic Collins Street dentist and Chadstone -The Fashion Capital. The business has doubled almost yearly and is now pushing 25 nationally consolidated employees out of its head office in Melbourne.

Some agency highlights include representing clients at New York and Paris Fashion Weeks, international work in Hong Kong, China, Washington, London and Los Angeles, decade-long relationships with clients, work with major events around the country including the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, and celebrity partnerships with the likes of Gigi Hadid, Usher, Andre Agassi, Rachel Zoe, Mark Wahlberg, Regé-Jean Page, Stan Wawrinka, Curtis Stone and Dannii and Kylie Minogue.

Romano Beck has worked hard to be bold, memorable and caring on the people front. We have everything you’d expect, like flexibility, hybrid working, training and development, and a balla Christmas party. And it offers industry-leading policies like five weeks of annual leave (four + quarterly wellness leave and your birthday), quarterly passion excursions, campaign conclusion dinners, weekly bold nomination celebrations and a biannual conference, all underpinned by its strong company values.
