Abbott beats Rudd in Kitchen Cabinet ratings as duo find themselves in unexpected debate on 2DayFM

PM Kevin Rudd’s blitz of ABC TV last night saw 7.30, in which he was interviewed by Leigh Sales, average a metro audience of 792,000, while his Kitchen Cabinet cook-in with Annabel Crabb rated 892,000.

This was behind opposition leader Tony Abbott’s ratings of 899,000 on 7.30 and 921,000 on Kitchen Cabinet on Wednesday night. However, ratings tend to be slightly lower on a Thursday compared to a Wednesday.

Meanwhile , Rudd and Abbott were unexpectedly thrown head-to-head on this morning’s Kyle & Jackie O Show on Sydney’s 2DayFM after the network ambushed the pair and put them both on air together.

Rudd said during the exchange: “This is the smartest on air ambush of the campaign.”

Elsewhere in the TV schedule, ABC dramas Upper Middle Bogan and It’s a Date also brought decent audiences to the network of 881,000 and 722,000 viewers respectively. ABC1 had a 13.8 per cent of the free to air audience share.

Channel Ten launched celebrity chef Jamie Oliver’s new series about cooking on a budget, ‘Save with Jamie’, from 7.30pm to 8.30pm, and averaged 596,000 metro viewers according to the OzTAM ratings. It was sixteenth for the night and eleventh in Ten’s target category of 25-54’s.

Seven continued to draw audiences for Dynamo: Magician Impossible, on from 8pm to 9pm, which had 938,000 metro viewers and was fourth among 25-54’s. However Please Marry My Boy, on from 9pm, had just 467,000 viewers and Formal Wars at 10pm, had 348,000.

Meanwhile Channel Nine’s Big Brother had 786,000 metro viewers across the five cities, and showed the live NRL game Broncos v Bulldogs in Sydney and Brisbane to an audience of 540,000 on the two cities.

Seven’s Sunrise had 357,00 metro viewers over Today’s 323,000.

Nine won the night with 23 per cent of the audience share, while Seven had 19.5 per cent.
