Ryvalmedia goes on hiring and promotion spree after client wins

Ryvalmedia has announced three senior promotions and six new hires in its Melbourne team, following a string of recent client wins.

Joseph Pardillo’s leadership team has been bolstered with the promotions of Marcus Betschel to general manager, Isabella Jackson to head of client service and Jonathan Henshaw to head of product and innovation.

This follows the announcement last week that Ryvalmedia had been appointed as the media agency for BNPL company Openpay, in addition to MYOB in May, and a new client win in American apparel company, New Era.

Betschel was CEO of JBZ Digital when it was acquired by Simon Ryan in August 2020, with the brand being retired and absorbed into Ryvalmedia. Betschel, was national head of strategy and products at Dentsu agency Columbus from 2016 to 2018, and before that, head of social media at Dentsu Mitchell. Jonathan Henshaw, co-founder at JBZ, also spent time at Columbus and Dentsu X.

The foundation agency of Simon Ryan’s new agency holding group, RyanCap, has also added six new hires to the team, including Trent Light as client business strategy director and Ed Field as new director of performance media, adding to the list of former Dentsu employees at Ryvalmedia/RyanCap.

Ryvalmedia’s managing director, Joseph Pardillo said: “I am beyond delighted to welcome fresh new faces to the team and equally proud to recognise a number of our existing crew with some very important role step-changes.”

Light has joined the agency from Newcorp, where he was commercial insights and strategy director. He also previously worked as national strategy director at Columbus. Light will lead the strategic digital, data, and tech proposition for Ryvalmedia’s client partners.

Ed Field also joins from another Dentsu agency, iProspect, where he was digital director. He will lead the performance media team. Ryvalmedia said that Field’s “experience and deep specialisation will underline the Ryvalmedia digital-first ethos and ensure best-in-class performance capabilities for the growing client portfolio seeking superior knowledge in this discipline”.

Pardillo continued: “Our growing team, across every function, truly value independence, empowerment, and entrepreneurship – they’re not afraid of accountability. And they don’t want to be swallowed up by a large organization where their contributions aren’t visible but instead want the freedom to think holistically and move at speed.  We will continue to develop this culture and build on it from the ground up with fresh graduate thinkers; I truly do believe that this is the secret sauce that underpins all other shiny selling points and proprietary USPs.”

The new hires also included Davina Ly and Daniella Mercieca as performance media managers, as well as hiring two marketing graduates. The agency said this “continues its commitment to foster and nurture new talent in the industry and developing them in line with Ryvalmedia’s unique approach to building brands for the digital economy”.

Joseph Pardillo was appointed as managing director in July last year, moving across from Dentsu agency, Carat, where he was managing director of the agency’s Melbourne shop, also working under Ryan during his time at DAN and Carat.

Another RyanCap agency, Foxcatcher, is also heavily staffed by former Dentsu employees, with David Gaskill being appointed to lead the local holding group’s second company, launched in October. Gaskill, Ryan and Pardillo all worked together at Dentsu, while Ryan was CEO of the agency network.
