SA Government $21m media pitch tipped to be a two horse race between MEC and Starcom

South Australian governmentThe race for the master media buying contract for The South Australian Government is tipped to be a showdown between incumbents MEC and Starcom.

Tenders on the $21m media account were opened in November with a submissions date of December 24.

Mumbrella understands that pitch presentations will be in early February with the two incumbent agencies again set to duke it out over what is one of South Australia’s largest media accounts.

Currently MEC holds the campaign component of the account, with Starcom holding the smaller non-campaign component after losing the wider account back in 2010.

The SA Government account was handed to MEC’s Adelaide office, which also handles media duties for Mitsubishi, in 2009 and renewed for a further two years without a pitch in 2013.

All agencies contacted declined to comment.

According to Nielsen data the South Australian government had a main media spend of $21.6m in the 12 months to October.
