Sarah Murdoch leaves Next Top Model

Australia’s Next Top Model host and co-executive producer Sarah Murdoch will not be involved in the next series of the Fox 8 show, Foxtel announced today.

According to the announcement, it was Murdoch’s own decision to move on.

Brian Walsh, Foxtel’s executive director of television, said: “Sarah has made a remarkable contribution to Australia’s Next Top Model and was instrumental in propelling the programme to its most successful season ever, in 2011. We would like to thank Sarah for her passion, commitment and incredible support of the series. Naturally we are disappointed to lose her, but the show goes on.”

In the previous season the live final ended disastrously with Murdoch announcing the wrong winner. However, this year’s live final, held at Sydney Opera House, was flawless.

Murdoch’s departure is likely to trigger speculation of a move to free TV. Murdoch has previously guest hosted on Nine’s Today show, and Ten – managed by Sarah Murdoch’s husband Lachlan – is yet to name a female host for its new breakfast offering.

She said: ““It has been an incredible opportunity to work on a show as exciting and popular as Australia’s Next Top Model. Leaving the show has been a very difficult decision for me. Being entrusted to work on all aspects as host and co-executive producer has been a huge experience and I have enjoyed it so much.”
