SBS audience share increases following Viceland launch

SBS increased its audience share overnight following the launch of SBS Viceland on SBS 2 yesterday at 4:00pm, increasing the channel’s share to 1.0% from 0.7% Tuesday night last week.

Viceland

The new lifestyle and cultural channel was announced in early October, and will feature SBS favourites such as The Feed, as well as Viceland’s Ellen Page and Ian Daniel’s exploration of LGBTQI cultures around the world in Gaycation.

The increase in channel share comes after a large digital, social and outdoor campaign in the lead-up to the launch.

SBS’ total network share for the evening was 7.3%, an increase on last week’s 6.6%.

Meanwhile, Channel Seven dominated the shares at 19.6%, ahead of Nine at 17.0%, Ten with a share of 11.6%, and the ABC at 13.4%.

The most watched non-news program of the evening was Seven’s First Dates at 7:30pm, which achieved 803,000 viewers.

While it was also the most watched program across the key advertising demographics (16-39s, 18-49s, 25-54s), the show was down on last week’s 854,000 viewers.

Also at 7:30pm, Nine’s The Big Bang Theory achieved an audience of 720,000, and managed a top three position across the key ad demographics.

Seven won the evening in news, with 954,000 viewers at 6:00pm and 929,000 viewers at 6:30pm.

Channel Nine achieved audiences of 876,000 viewers and 896,000 viewers, respectively.

Later in the evening, Nine’s Unreal Estate trailed with an audience of 436,000, down on last week’s audience of 525,000 viewers.

Airing at 8:40pm, Gold Coast Medical achieved 584,000 viewers – up from last week’s 566,000 viewers.

Gold Coast Medical led the second and final episode of ABC’s Streets Of Your Town, which achieved 575,000 viewers in the same time slot.
