SBS say it is ‘business as usual’ as police investigate package found at Sydney office

SBS Logo 2015Police are investigating a suspicious package that was found at SBS Sydney headquarters in Artarmon earlier today.

NSW Police media confirmed the operation was occurring but declined to comment on the suspicious substance which was handed into reception.

Mumbrella understands the package was found in a stairwell and then handed into reception, with an email to staff saying access to the building through the front foyer and reception area was blocked off.

Staff were instructed to enter and exit through the cafe and were reassured contacting the police was “standard process for this sort of incident”.

An SBS spokesperson told Mumbrella staff had not been evacuated while a small area has been cordoned off.

“Purely as a precautionary measure, SBS has alerted authorities to a small unknown substance in a package which was handed into reception a short time ago. This is standard protocol for this sort of incident. A small area has been cordoned off for the time being, but there is still full access to the building. Staff have not been evacuated and it is business as usual,” the statement said.
